Welcome to Imperfect Game, less of a review blog and more of an excuse to gush about my favorite Shoot 'em up game Touhou Project. Today am covering Azure Reflections one of many third-party Touhou games out there, I’ve covered Touhou Project before and I believe this makes this game the second Third Party Touhou Project game I review on Imperfect Game.
Anyways Azure Reflections is a shoot 'em up similar to official Touhou only this time it’s a side scroller where you can shoot in both directions left and right. The stages keep you on your toes with enemies coming from both sides and many directions and often firing bullets at you, while the stages having many challenging bullets being shot at you it lacks some of the patterns the common enemies of the Official Touhou games however Azure Reflections makes up for this by having AAA quality character models and 3D graphics as well as overall visual and audio polish, The soundtrack for the game is great and enjoyable.
The game also has a Danmaku (meaning Barrage) Rush attack where you rush enemies and bullets with a barrier that grows in power based on how many bullets you absorb. If done right you can end Boss fights quicker than usual. As for the Bosses, this game has a few bosses that each has their themes and patterns, like Satori with her circle eye pattern and Sakuya with her many knives. The three different playable characters Reimu, Marisa, and Cirno(who needs a 1 continue clear or something to unlock.) with different playstyles, and each one has three different shot types like a shot that shoots in both directions at once or homing shots to let you focus on dodging bullets. There is also an accessory system that lets you customize gameplay even further with passive effects, They also make your character look super goofy.
Inclosing Azure Reflections is a great game, it shows us what Touhou Project would look like under a AAA studio while paying tribute to Touhou 6 this game adds enough differences to stand up on its own as a game and not just a fangame. This has been Imperfect Game and thanks for reading.
