Welcome to Imperfect Game, less a review blog and more of a personal hobby project, and today we’re covering Gzdoom. Gzdoom is technically a source port of the original Doom games, it doesn’t stick to its dos roots and actively goes for modernizing everything about old Doom to catch it up to the 21st century standard for First Person Shooters. I don’t know much at all about the original Doom but I do know a bit about Gzdoom, basically what Gzdoom does is provide a new engine for old Doom and add neat features like mouse aiming and a modern control scheme for the older Doom titles. It also supports higher resolutions than the old dos versions of the game. But there is an even bigger feature that I use Gzdoom for and that's mod support.

Mod support for Gzdoom allows anything from a small addon to a whole total conversion and while am sure other source ports out there can support mods am at least a little sure Gzdoom has the most popular mods. Unlike dos, Doom Gzdoom has limit removing features to enable level mods that wouldn’t work in the old versions of Doom. I poured hours of modded Doom into this source port and it’s my personal favorite source port even if it doesn’t stick to the vanilla game’s controls or graphics. This has been Imperfect Game and thanks for reading.
