My Taste in Music

My mom pointed out something I can do for the blog and that's covering my tastes in music, I was surprised and kept that in mind. While I don’t typically buy music anymore (seeing as Spotify has met most of my music needs), I have a few purchased music albums and singles for offline listening on my favorite music player of choice, Musicbee. Mainly soundtracks from video games or fan-made remixes of existing music. It may shock you to learn that there are quite a decent amount of freely available music remixes of existing video game music, my favorite sites include OCRemix having quite a lot of game music remixes to download and listen to, back in my high school days I would hear on my little blue MP3 Player a few dozen saved remixes from that site alone. While I don’t often download any music these days (due to having most songs I could want from Spotify, I still value a locally accessible music Library.) I still see OCRemix as a great place for those who love video game music and its remixes. One of my favorite songs from this site is a vocal cover and reimagining of Heartful Cry from my favorite JRPG Persona 3 FES called True Calling (unplugged) by Diodes and J Psycle. The singing was amazing and tells this almost blues-like story, while the source material was a battle theme from a JRPG where you control android fighting with a mysterious power it truly works wonders as a sad acoustic song. It’s a shame not everyone is going to have heard of this song, I implore you to at least search this song on YouTube as that's where most OCRemixs seem to be in addition to their website. While the search engine used in OCRemix.Org seems to be a bit lacking you can still search for remixes on a game-by-game basis. But over time I would hardly ever use OCRemix again as my taste in music has mostly transitioned into just listening to Touhou Remixes and while OCRemix had a few Touhou Tracks I would later turn to other sources, like a Japanese site called Melonbooks that had (at least at one point in time) a free set of House (The music genre, not the building) remixes from almost all the mainline Touhou games. I really loved the house remixes, they all have a nice blend of Traditional and Electronic sounds. Sadly the link for the once free albums is now gone and I don’t know where to find them again, I think YouTube may still have these songs but other than that it was gone. On the topic of Touhou Music, I’ve found a decent site called Bandcampwhere I can get whole Albums of “pay what you want” Touhou remixes, mostly in the form of German EDM Albums, Never knew Touhou was that Popular in German, as a weeb who typically listened to anime music I don't know the Lyrics of I adjusted to the German lyrics pretty fine and the beats where top-notch. But there were some songs in English so it’s not all German at least. My Favorites from this niche area of Touhou Music are artists known as Norowareta Night and Babbe
But I wasn’t just listening to German EDM and Sad songs, I got the Touhou Metal Album Bullet Hell by Richaadeb and he goes hard on his covers of Classic Touhou songs. But that's not the only metal I listen to, Takamachi Walk is an artist that combines sadness and anger to create Touhou mixes with a bit of blues and edge, the mixes were so transformative I could mistake it for completely original work. The vocals are both gentle and harsh. At the time of writing this post, I admittedly dived back into downloading music from Bandcamp of Touhou Remixes, guess I couldn’t help but listen to those kinds of tracks again as I don’t think these fan remixes are on Spotify. I hope this deep dive into my musical niches was at least insightful and interesting, am going to either focus on my YouTube stuff or maybe play a game until it’s time for bad or at least spend time reorganizing my local music files.
