Author's Note
Hello, this is Tommy Lovett and I've finally for real this time got back into the medium of Table Top Role Playing Games. I've finally settled on a cast of characters and decided to simply set the story in a generic DnD fantasy setting (Whose name am currently working on) and even picked up a module to help kick-start the campaign. am currently running this campaign solo (like by myself Ironsworn style) and intend to keep it that way, I manage this by acting as both the Game Master and the Player at the same time with a focus on journaling the adventures of my player characters using tools like Ironsworn's oracles and random tables to randomize certain parts of the game that would normally be handled by a GM. Such as asking basic yes or no questions with dice rolls. But enough of my ramblings and let's start the actual play of Savage Worlds. The module am running is called Talisman of The Dark Sorrow and this actual play will no doubt spoil that module so be wary.
Chapter 1 - Stolen Gems
Colin Heart has traveled to Iriaebor for the beginning of his new adventurer lifestyle, he arrives at the dragon Horse Inn paying no mind to the state of the place as he is too focused on his goal of finding an adventure to partake in.
The weather was fair and sunny, there were even tables outside the inn for eating out of doors. Colin wondered if he could take one of the outdoor tables for his meal. He approaches the innkeeper Mister Arles "Tiny" Hayley he speaks as Colin makes it to his bar table. "Well met adventurer, what would you like for your meal?" Colin looks at a menu he picked up on the way to the barkeep and makes his choice. "I'll have the Roast Beef, and could I get a table outside," Colin asked the barkeep. Turns out today is his lucky day and Colin was able to get both his lunch and his outdoor table, it was a lovely place to eat.
Everything was peaceful until suddenly a young boy runs into the inn and shouts about injured dwarves and bandits. Colin just barely overhears this and follows the source of the boy's shouts.
Colin asked, "What is a wrong young one, is there any way I can assist you?"
The Boy explained "It was Magnus Bendergran who was coming from Elversult traveling through Priapurl. He and another dwarf were attacked by bandits!"
Colin would then meet up with the two injured dwarves and piece together a story. while both dwarves were ambushed by bandits they lost their gems to the thugs. Colin asked if he could return these gems to the dwarves and they agree.
Colin finds a group of bandits not far from where the dwarves were ambushed thanks to a blood trail left from Thulnak's crossbow bolt that injured one of the bandits as he first fed from the ambush.
Colin was a bit careless and stepped on a fallen branch and alerted the group of bandits, seeing the lone spellsword the cocky group thought of Colin as an easy mark and the battle began.
A short firey struggle later and now all the bandits have been burnt down. though still alive and well done. Colin sees the wounded member who didn't join the battle scared for his life as Colin approaches them.
The bandit still conscious spoke in rushed studdering speech. "Wait please don't hurt me am wounded!" Colin simply replied "I have no intention of killing you, your partners are alive as well. What I went are the gems you stole from two dwarves you ambushed. Return them and you will be spared." The bandit was sweating bullets and simply says "We already gave the gems to some warlock who hired us, b-but you don't have to hurt me I'll mark the place their hiding on your map!"
The newly marked map leads Conlin into the small hills northeast of the camp. he sees a large tent and two horses tied up to a tree outside the tent. Colin simply walked to the tent and as he began to enter it he mistakenly sets off a poison trap... he takes one wound of poison damage and is shaken. behind him were both the warlock armed with a wand of poison and the leader of the bandits who carried a greatsword and wore heavy armor. The warlock spoke. "So you were the one following my trail, a mere brute mercenary with only a basic knowledge of the arcane...Normally I'd personally deal with you adventurer types but today am feeling generous and will allow you to flee back to your employers alive if you take your only chance to run but if you intend to throw your life away I'll break you down even more than you already are." Now while Colin hated the idea of letting these two crooked men take the gems he is sadly wounded and outnumbered but his ambushers were clearly a cut above the mooks that came before. Colin didn't say a word and simply ran away from the tent and the two men. His father once said there was no shame in admitting defeat so long as he can live another day and learn from it.
Colin made it back to the dwarves waiting in the dragon Horse Inn and told them what had happened. The dwarf Magnus could tell Colin was unsuccessful from his wounded state. "Oh gods what happened Colin? Were you able to find the gems?" "Afraid not...I managed to fight off the first group of thugs but when I made it to the leader's tent I was ambushed and outnumbered, apparently, a Warlock hired those bandits to take the gems for a yet-to-be-known reason...am sad to say I fled the scene...I doubt I could have taken both of them on myself." "What do you plan on doing? surely you're not going to let those that warlock have the gems." "I first need to recover from that poison trap, then I might need to hire an adventurer or two if I am to stand a chance of stopping both the warlock and the bandit leader." so Colin stayed the night in the inn and tended to his wounds as he thinks of who could or would possibly help him take on both the warlock and the bandit leader. Back will he be able to take the fight in time to stop whatever the warlock was planning?
